About
Shelley Simmons-Bloom is an expert in brand and corporate communications across the retail, entertainment, and non-profits sectors. She has significant experience leading global and national communications for two pioneering, socially-conscious cosmetics brands: As Head of Communications for The Body Shop International and Vice President of Global Communications for Aveda, the Art & Science of Pure Flower and Plant Essences.
At The Body Shop she was inspired by and worked closely with its groundbreaking founder, Dame Anita Roddick. As a global leader of all aspects of communications, Shelley delivered innovative, creative strategies and trained communications teams and executives at all levels.
In her early career, Shelley led communications for the Animal Defenders, a UK non-profit group, and was a publicist at BBC Films, the British Film Institute, and a Board member of Compassion in World Farming while she lived in London. After seven years with The Body Shop International, based in London, Shelley was assigned by the brand to New York City where she built a communications structure for its North American operations and continued in the role for the next five years, until she was hired by the Estée Lauder Companies for their Aveda brand.
Her law degree from the University of Westminster has helped her navigate the complex world of corporate and crisis communications. This rare set of skills enables Shelley to combine a commercial mindset with a deep understanding of values-driven organizations and small businesses.
Since launching Positivity Communications in 2018, Shelley has worked extensively with one of the largest global cosmetics groups, independent beauty brands, international non-profit organizations in the U.S. and U.K., and creative agencies, building a loyal client base along the way.
Shelley has been a positive activist her entire life. A vegetarian since age 12, she has been a supporter of animal, environmental, and social justice issues across the world throughout her life and has shaped her career around supporting values-driven organizations.
In September 2024, she launched The Beacon Beacon, a hyperlocal platform consisting of social media and a website to promote her hometown of Beacon, NY.
Originally from London, Shelley lives with her husband, Matt, and their adored cat, Bunny.
